2012 CALENDAR OF EVENTS:
We will be fundraising for local charities at several races in 2012. As plans develop, we will post a calendar of events for these campaigns.
More Than Sport Ironman 70.3 Honu Outreach

Whenever you think about Hawaii your thoughts are automatically drawn to the palm trees, the world famous sunsets and the gorgeous hotels. What you may not notice is that under the veneer of perfection there is a large community of ‘refugees in paradise’.
A community of about two thousand Marshallese live on the Big Island of Hawai’i. In 1954, after the US military did nuclear tests on one of the Marshall Islands, many Marshallese had to leave their own homes because of the high levels of radiation in their areas. Due to these high levels many Marshallese have been stricken with cancer.
The Marshallese have lived through great adversities, both nuclear and environmental. In spite of the difficulties the Marshallese community stands out as beacons of hope, both to their own people and to those who are privileged enough to meet them. “Let’s keep thinking about life and let’s keep going. Don’t give up”.
Join the MoreThanSport KONA Crew June 3rd, for a day to give back to this Amazing community! Spend the day with us doing arts and crafts with the kids, painting, cleaning, and building an aquaponics system to ensure fresh fish and vegetables in their diet.
Extra funds raised will be used to start a Marshallese scholarship fund for continued education.

HOUSTON – Right now, there’s no shelter or program in Texas dedicated to serving child victims of sex trafficking. Most service providers can’t afford to meet the state’s strict requirements, but one local ministry is taking up the challenge to serve some of our most abused children.
Beyond the glare of headlights, far from the noise of the city, is a safe house away from harm, away from shame. Freedom Place will be home to American girls rescued from sex trafficking in the Houston area. Join the MoreThanSport Crew this March, in bringing awareness and life-giving opportunity, to those in Need!
Ironman 70.3 Panama, Panama City
More Than Sport will partner with YWAM, Homes of Hope and Ironman Foundation to build homes for flood victims in the Darien Gap in the Rep. of Panama following the Ironman 70.3 Panama this February 2012.
In November of 2010 a series of devastating floods swept through the Darien Gap, destroying homes for more than 300 people. To date, 48 homes are in dire need of being rebuilt. Join us to make this dream come true, as we set out to build four homes for the neediest of the families. Help bring hope to the Embera!
Extend your travel 2-3 days after the race to build a whole house or just help for a day. We will also be raising the funds for building materials. If you are interested in joining us in the build or want more information on how you can donate your time or resources, contact us at morethansportinfo@gmail.com or become an ambassador for the race and help raise funds. http://morethansport.org/get-involved-mts/
Remember, you can partner with MTS to support the charities we identify, or one of your choosing. You can use the IMF platform (accessible from this website), which makes it SO easy to manage. If you are not an Ironman competitor (of any IM race), check back here in January, and we’ll have a platform arranged for you to use. Wear your MTS tee shirt or race kit, and race!
Chris will be competing at several races throughout this year, and we will update this page as more news becomes available.
